nature walks
from this last month
it’s been an interesting month…. i’ve felt very low in energy and my mind has been struggling with hopeless thoughts. i’ve attributed it to ADHD and peri-menopause bringing out the confusion of why i’m not getting anything done and hopelessness of not being able to see the solution. hormones.
during this time I did manage to step out at times for long walks with mat. it’s always a blessing when i’m out observing nature and moving my body, especially on a glorious day of soft sunlight.
the photo above was taken when we were crossing over the yarra river in kew. it’s such an impressive river! so long and wiggly. that day, we walked from the abbotsford convent, after we had some lunch there at kappaya, which makes japanese food. we sat outside and enjoyed some warming food. following one of the yarra trails, we crossed over another suspension bridge and headed back into kew to visit mat’s folks. we walked through bushland and a golf course.
after our visit, we walked along the road and took the photo of the river, then found ourselves back at the start. we popped into the bakery there and got a drink, before heading back home.
last weekend we walked the westerfolds loop track at westerfolds park. I thought it would be good to walk on solid dry ground, as we’ve had rain lately and I didn’t want to get wet feet. the park was busy with people enjoying the sunshine and school holiday freedoms. again, lots of bushland to observe and kangaroos lazing about off the track. this photo shows a group chilling out, some looking at us - maybe they do the same as us and nudge each other ‘look there’s another one! oh that one’s a different colour, how strange.’ maybe, maybe not. I like to think we are as interesting to them as they are to us. they do look at us, but I assume it’s with caution and alertness. you can’t trust all of us after all.
a couple of fellas asked us to take a photo of them in front of the roos and mat obliged. then they wanted proof they made a friend, so mat jumped into the shot and I took a photo of the three of them. this guy’s dad will be happy his child has met some friendly aussies!
we continued our walk and explored the old house that is closed up now. i’m assuming its heritage listed, so it will remain there and hopefully used again someday. I remember when it used to be an art gallery and also when my cousin got married there. so some good memories!
we usually do our walks on a sunday, when there is plenty of time to take it slow and include eating somewhere as part of our time out together. this time we ended up at vegie mum. it was very yum and we had leftovers to take home too. all the food on the menu is vegetarian, some being vegan. lots of mock meat dishes. I found it overwhelming to look at the whole menu and knowing I could eat anything on it! what does duck taste like anyway? is it something I want to experience? I asked the waiter what he would recommend. mat was interested in the whole fish dish, so what would go well with that? apparently the ribs were very popular, but it didn’t sound that enticing to me. I ordered chicken with vegetables, like a stir fry with a light sauce. the waiter said we needed to have ‘ecstasy rice’ too…. he said it was like having weed, but better! It was all very nice, we just got full, not high. but the rice was tasty anyway.
so that’s the 2 walks I managed to do this past month. let me know if you have any good walk suggestions you think i’d enjoy around melbourne and surrounds.
if you live else where, what’s a walk you enjoy doing?
